New work, February 2010

I am currently photographing work for a self promotion campaign. I photograph a lot of personally assigned work between paid assignments both to stay creative and also to use for promotional purposes. I started planning the project last fall and have collaborated with stylist Laura Flagler on all aspects of the project including: wardrobe, locations, props and styling.

So far in January we have already shot at a number of locations with several different models and things have started coming together. This shot is of Kelsee Wirtjes with The Agency Arizona. The project isn’t finished yet, but this is a sneak preview of what I am working on for epromos and print promos for 2010.

New work, Dance

I recently collaborated with stylist Aeni Domme and dancer Chris Morgan on a shoot in the studio. Chris is a great subject and was in Phoenix working on the Arizona Theatre Company’s Production of Ain’t Misbehavin’.  Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot.

This is a shot from a recent test shot back in November with model Jade Jossey from the Agency Arizona, Michele Lee (HMU) and Casey Hagarty (wardrobe). This is a very underexposed and grainy shot but I like how it turned out.

David George

I recently photographed a musician friend of mine, David George, while he was on tour in Phoenix. I have known David for years. We met back in Kansas City in the mid-late 90’s. I photographed two album covers for his band Moaning Lisa in 2000 and 2003 and numerous promo photos over the years.

He’s been living in Los Angeles since 2004 and I don’t see as much of him these days. He is currently recording a solo record that is due out next year. While in Phoenix he needed some promo photos to promote upcoming shows in Los Angeles and Kansas City. Here are my favorites from the shoot…and check out his music here.

People Magazine in Sedona

I recently traveled to Sedona, Arizona to photograph an assignment for People Magazine. The magazine was writing a story about deaths that occurred during a sweat lodge at a resort south of Sedona.

My subject Shawna Bowen is a substance abuse therapist who was one of the first people on the scene the day of this tragic event. This portrait of Shawna is my favorite outtake from the shoot. She was a great subject and very kind to allow us to go back to the area where the event took place. The photo below is the road leading down to the valley where the resort is located.

The magazine ran the story in the Friday, October 30, 2009 edition. More information on the story can be found at various locations online.

Here is another photograph from a recent model test with Madeline Hall. I always try to get a wide variety of different looks from each shoot and this is very different from the previous post from this session.

This is one look from recent test with Madeline Hall from The Agency Arizona, Michele Lee  was the Hair/Makeup stylist and Casey Hagarty was the wardrobe stylist.

We shot another completely different look that I am going to post after I have fully edited the shoot over the next week or two.

Picturing Maricopa project finished…

In August I photographed a project commissioned by the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust called Picturing Maricopa. The Piper Trust commissioned 15 Valley photographers to work with different nonprofit organizations to “tell their stories” to clients, partners and potential donors.

The organization I was selected to work with was St. Joseph The Worker. Based in downtown Phoenix, St. Joseph The Worker assist homeless, low-income and other disadvantaged individuals in their efforts to become self-sufficient through permanent, full-time employment.  Here are a few of my favorite images from the project.
