Behind the Scenes

more ‘Stills of Imagined Films’ coming soon…

This summer I will be working on new productions for my series “Stills of Imagined Films”…

Stills of Imagined Films – trailer from Mark Peterman on Vimeo.

Thanks to my friends Lovers In Transit (Jeremiah, Ryan, Mychael and Bronson) for allowing me to use a snippet of their song ‘Cities’ for this piece. It’s one of my favorite songs of all time.

Travel days: on assignment for a national magazine

In an earlier post I mentioned traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah in March for a shoot for Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine. The assignment was to photograph a couple who had recently purchased a house  for an article about the fluctuating housing markets around the country.

I wanted to share some photos from the trip that weren’t published and give a timeline for the events of a travel day while shooting for a national editorial client.

Location scouting in Arizona and California

I am starting to plan some personal work to be shot over the next few months. I recently spent some time scouting locations in western Arizona and southern California.

I am always looking to find interesting locations that offer a unique perspective. While things are still in the planning stages, I am excited about the challenges this new work will bring and hope to have new work to show by the new year…

On assignment in Flagstaff for Runner’s World

Last week I photographed a feature for Runner’s World Magazine in Sedona and Flagstaff, Arizona on the Run S.M.A.R.T Project. The project is essentially a training camp for distance runners. The article won’t be published for awhile so I can’t show any of the final shots but I have worked up some personal and iphone photos that show the experience.

I spent two days during the week working on the project and in between had to go to Tucson shooting for a different magazine. It was great to get out of town to do some work and some of the locations up north were amazing. The photos will be featured as a preview for the 2010 camp and will be published next year.

Recent advertising campaigns

In June, I photographed two different ad campaigns, one for a new client, OmniMount and the other for a client that I have worked with before, the Kohler Academy.

The production shot below is from the OmniMount campaign, where we produced 7 different shots over 2 days. The Kohler Academy campaign was started earlier this year, back in April and we finished it up at the end of June.

Both projects were very succesful and I can’t wait to get the final work out there from both campaigns. Thanks to the creatives and crew involved with both projects.

The Hotel, Behind the scenes

Here is a series of production shots taken from another self-produced lifestyle/fashion shoot. We built a hotel room set in the studio back in November as a second part of the series of the phone call shoot I started in July. This is more personal work that will also function as portfolio and self-promotion imagery.

The Phone Call, behind the scenes

I recently shot a self-produced model test in the studio where we built a phone booth and created a street scene. Here are a series of production shots that show the building process including a few of the crew I was working with, Lucas McClain and Laura Flagler.

About

Mark Peterman explores narratives with photographs and multimedia. Although his work
is at home in the post-modern world it is very informed by history. A desire to be creative
on a daily basis fuels his curiosity about the human experience and he documents things in sketchbooks as a way of remembering his life.

Since he was young, he has been recreating the world around him through photographs and is continually refining his artistic vision by drawing on influences from music, literature and art. Mark's work reflects a graphic, story-telling quality with a cinematic feel, drawing on his design background while studying at the Kansas City Art Institute.

Mark enjoys photographing ordinary people who do interesting things. Although he is primarily a still photographer, he has recently started incorporating multi-media and motion into his work. Recent project themes include examining how ones memory is effected with the passage of time and exploring family histories.
